☀️                           Welcome to the episode, as we approach the shortest day of the year we’ll be exploring the fascinating connections between the winter solstice, paganism, and the holidays. Let’s dive in.

Winter Solstice Dec 21, 2024

The winter solstice officially takes hold on Saturday, Dec 21, 2024 in the northern hemisphere. The annual event is celebrated in many cultures and kicks off the start of the winter season.

“It’s the astronomical moment when the sun reaches the Tropic of Capricorn, and includes the shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere in terms of daylight,” the Farmer’s Almanac explains.

Saturnalia

The ancient Roman pagans celebrated Saturnalia on the day of the solstice. This festival was a time of feasting, gift-giving, and merriment, but it also had a darker side. Saturnalia was described as a kind of purge, where people would walk the streets naked, and social norms were turned upside down. From December 17th to 23rd, they would throw a week-long party to celebrate Saturnalia, a festival honoring the god Saturn and the winter solstice.

Yule Time Jolly

A  Norse tale lies behind the ancient tradition of burning a Yule log. According to legend, Thor, the god of thunder- son of god Odin, Godin- saved the world and brought warmth and light to the world by slaying the giant serpent Jörmungandr that circled the earth.

With his mighty hammer, he ignited the sparks that became the stars and the sun, symbolizing the return of light and warmth to the world. This feat is said to have inspired the Yule log tradition, which originated as a ritual to welcome the warmth during the darkest, coldest time of the year.

The tradition involved burning a log in honor of Thor, and keeping the ashes for good luck. Over time, this ancient practice evolved into the modern custom of lighting a Yule log, a tradition that continues to symbolize bringing warmth and joy to ones home.

☀️☀️☀️

Sol Invictus -the Unconquerable Sun

The Romans worshiped the sun god Sol, and the cult of Sol Invictus, the Invincible Sun, was introduced to Rome in AD 219.

Often depicted as riding a chariot across the sky; “On, Dasher! On, Dancer! On, Prancer, and Vixen!”

The festival of Sol Invictus was celebrated on December 25, and it’s believed that the early Christian church chose this date to celebrate the birth of Jesus, which was first mentioned in the Roman calendar in AD 336.

Santa Claus – Satan Cauls

Once you get the hang of it, it’s hard to stop. To solve an anagram, you need to visualize the letters as shapes and see them shifting about.

With Santa and Satan, it’s really quite simple – you could see the “TA” shifting backwards and the “N” sliding to the back. This anagram reveals a fascinating connection between the two figures.

Santa functionally replaces god as the the all seeing, all knowing judge of your soul. He sees you when you are sleeping he knows when you’re awake;  that’s some serious surveillance state shit;  dudes a perv; bet he’s on the diddy freak out list; does he sell your data to third parties?

Sinterklaas and Krampus

Sinterklaas is Dutch Saint Nicholas. If you say say Saint Nicholas very fast it sounds like Sinterklass -at least to the Dutch.

He’s a bishop who brings gifts to kids on December 5th and 6th. along with his buddy, Black Pete aka Krampus.

Krampus is a goat-like demon-like creature. He accompanies Saint Nick who rewards the good ones with gifts; the bad one’s are given to Krampus who eats them.

Chomp chomp chomp; it’s yummy, it’s good ya? Krampus is typically depicted as a man with horns, a human foot, and a goat foot, covered in black hair.

Recently, Krampus got get kicked out of the White House  He kept sniffing the naughty list; Biden didn’t want sniffing competition.

Pagan festivals, the Sun, and the Symbolism

As we’ve explored the connections between the winter solstice, paganism, and the holidays, it’s clear that the traditions and symbols we associate with Christmas today have a rich and complex history.

From the ancient Roman festivals of Saturnalia and Sol Invictus to the modern-day celebration of the holidays, the themes of renewal, gift-giving, and the return of the sun have been recycled throughout.

Even the figure of Santa Claus, with his anagrammatic connection to Satan, reveals a fascinating intersection of dualities. As we head into the winter solstice, it’s worth taking a step back to appreciate the complex symbolism behind modern traditions.

The connections between ancient pagan festivals, the sun, and the symbolism of light and darkness are still woven into the fabric of our celebrations today.

It serves as an empowering visualization that we may also rise from the darkness like the unconquerable sun; that we may also be Invictus! ☀️ Catch ya’ll in the post-retrograde 🔫 bang!!
